HPT: 1.53 g of KOH (0.0274 mol, 10 equiv.) was taken and added to 40 mL THF in a 100 mL capacity round bottomed flask, and stirred until nearly all the KOH dissolves in THF. This is followed by the addition of 1.5 g of hydroquinone (0.0137 mol, 5 equiv.) and the stirring is continued under N2 atmosphere. 500 mg (2.747 mmol) of cyanuric chloride is added to the reaction mixture and the set up is kept for constant stirring for 48 h. The solvent is evaporated under vacuum and the resulting mixture is neutralized with dilute HCl and thoroughly washed with water. The off white precipitate obtained is filtered, dried and taken for NMR studies. m.p. 239–241 oC. 1 H NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz): 6.730 (d, J = 8.0 Hz, 6 H), 6.905 (d, J = 8.0 Hz, 6 H), 9.262 (s, 3 H). 13C NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz): 173.41, 155.39, 143.70, 121.65, 115.38.
